Herrera recently hosted a holiday party and silent auction to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, raising $9,000 for the foundation. Over one hundred guests attended the party. Many local businesses donated to the event, which was held on the 5 year anniversary of Herrera vice president Carol Slaughterbeck’s stem cell transplant for breast cancer. Entertainment was provided by local band Shakin’ Josie and special guests. Yummy catering was provided by Laura and Ryan McElroy.
Stem cell transplant and bone marrow transplant patients at Fred Hutchinson cancer center sometimes refer to the center as “Club Fred”. At the time, Carol and her husband Cliff told people “well, we asked the travel agent to send us to Club Med for the holidays, but he got mixed up and sent us to Club Fred instead.” So, the 5 year anniversary party sported a Club Med theme. Many thanks from the Komen foundation and the Slaughterbecks to Herrera staff, St. Benedict School, and the donors who helped make this event happen:
