The Puget Sound Professional Partners Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) raised over $5000 during its first fundraising event on June 9th at Seattle Central Community College. Funds raised by this event will help pay for the Chapter’s costs to send an assessment team to Sri Lanka for a week in the last half of June as part of an on-going project to rebuild 9 day schools destroyed by the tsunami and to build three new boarding schools to help house newly orphaned Sri Lankan children. EWB is working with a Seattle-based non-government organization (NGO), Asiana Education Development, which runs 71 schools in Sri Lanka. Click here for more information.
Several Herrera staff are active members of EWB, including executive committee members Jill Treutel (fundraising committee coordinator) and Christina Avolio (student chapters coordinator).
